On May 20th, the Bulls struck gold by grabbing the first pick in the upcoming NBA Draft. The Bulls only had a 1.7% chance of obtaining the first pick. Rumors have swirled about who Chicago will take between Memphis PG Derrick Rose and Kansas State SF/PF Michael Beasley, both of whom will visit Chicago for two-day meetings on June 16th. Beasley was the expected number one pick all year, but Derrick Rose dramatically improved his draft stock during the NCAA Tournament. Rose, who is from Chicago and went to Simeon High School, lead Memphis to the national title game and almost to a national championship, but Memphis blew a 9 point lead with 2:12 to go by missing 4 of 5 free throws down the stretch. Either player would dramatically improve a struggling Bulls team that finished 33-49 last season.
